We are very happy to announce that Lauren Fontana is joining Disability Law United as a staff attorney.
Lauren spent the last two years teaching in the University of Denver Sturm College of Law’s Civil Rights Clinic, representing incarcerated individuals. Prior to joining the Clinic, she spent several years as an Associate Attorney at the Denver civil rights firm of Killmer, Lane & Newman, focusing on police brutality. She also spent two years clerking before becoming a “real lawyer.” She attended law school at The Ohio State University Mortiz College of Law (but is undoubtedly a Wolverine at heart), deciding to go to law school the day after same-sex marriage bans were enacted in 16 states. In an unexpected twist, she co-authored an amicus brief that was cited by Justice Kennedy in the Supreme Court’s decision legalizing same-sex marriage. When she’s not busy fighting the man, she can be found climbing mountains, growing her own food, and hanging out with her gentle giant of a dog, Ellie.
We are so excited that Lauren is part of our team! And office dogs Holly and Saguaro are thrilled to have another dog lover around for head scratches and belly rubs.
