“The suit was part of a series of settlements across the United States that firms reached in the late 2010s, said Cynthia Rice, law director for Disability Law United. Denver settled a class-action suit over curb ramp deficiencies in 2016 and similar agreements with Seattle and Portland were struck around the same time.

The lack of ramps was an issue for many areas, but so was making sure the existing ramps were usable for residents, Rice said.

‘If it’s too steep, then maintaining control of the chair becomes very difficult. If it’s too narrow, then getting into it becomes difficult,’ she said.”
