Please join us in welcoming Disability Law United’s summer externs, Rebecca Reeves and Ethan Curl!
Rebecca is joining Disability Law United as a summer extern after her first year at Duke University School of Law. There, she is a member of the Public Interest Law Foundation and the Duke Food Law Society/Land Preservation Project, among other student organizations. Through the Land Preservation Project, Rebecca researches policy and legal issues to aid Black farmers in maintaining access to their land, fighting generational dispossession and gentrification.
As an undergraduate student at Northeastern University, Rebecca explored civil rights law, consumer protection, and plaintiff-side litigation. She worked for several summers as an intern at Southern Legal Counsel, where she provided research, drafting, and pre-trial litigation support on initiatives for the civil rights of people experiencing houselessness, transgender people, young people involved in the justice system, and others.
Rebecca is an avid runner with two half marathons under her belt. She loves to train with her rescue pup and BFF Winnie.
This summer, Rebecca will be working primarily on curb ramp accessibility issues. Rebecca says, “This past year has highlighted how much important work remains to be done in this country, and I’m thrilled to join an organization of talented and inspiring people looking to do that work.” We are so excited to welcome Rebecca to Disability Law United.
Ethan is joining Disability Law United as a summer extern on the Accessibility Project. He is a rising senior at the University of Tennessee Knoxville where he majors in political science and minors in business administration. He is interested, academically and professionally, in assisting people who have “historically been disenfranchised,” which brings him to advocacy work at Disability Law United.
Ethan has owned and maintained his own home since his freshman year, gaining skills in contracting, woodworking, and property management. He has work experience in real estate development and customer service. He is an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. In his free time, Ethan likes to go rock climbing!
This summer, he will be working with Martie Lafferty, Director of the Accessibility Project, on a case about the rights of a parent with a disability. Ethan says, “I am very excited to begin my internship here at Disability Law United. I believe that the work done here is incredibly significant, and I know that I will be learning so much from everybody.” We are so excited to welcome Ethan aboard!
Winnie is loyal, goofy, and strong. She joins the Disability Law United dogs as running trainer and stylist.
