CREEC is now Disability Law United!

The Civil Rights Education and Enforcement Center is now Disability Law United!

CREEC has been taking on big fights and winning since our founding in 2013. Putting disability front and center, CREEC believes that inclusion and justice are inseparable. In 2021, our fearless founders Amy Robertson and Tim Fox returned to private practice. Lauren Deutsch joined as Executive Director in 2022, and since then we’ve been strategic planning, hiring stellar staff, and bringing targeted impact cases. Through this process, we discovered that a new name would help express our mission and engage with people who want a world where disabled people can thrive in safety and justice.

Our theory of change is simple: We use disability laws to change an ableist world.

A disabled-led organization, Disability Law United brings novel claims to eliminate systems of oppression. More than 50% of our staff and board identify as disabled. We focus on cases at the intersection of disability, incarceration/policing, immigration detention, access to public services and the built environment, and environmental justice. Disability law is a powerful tool, and our cases are targeted to create systems change.

is: Strategic. Principled. Inclusive. Collaborative.

Disability Law United’s logo highlights these values. It embraces the collaboration and solidarity that powers social change. We are united together, as we cannot do this alone. Disability discrimination and injustice cannot be addressed as a standalone issue. Disability Law United honors its history as CREEC through its tagline: “Eliminating Discrimination at Every Intersection.”

CREEC is the heart of DLU and we honor our beginnings and our founders’ fierce commitment to civil rights through our Founders’ Circle.

CREEC has a new name but the same mission. You can check out our new website here: https://disabilitylawunited.org/.

Thank you for being a part of Disability Law United’s community of advocates, supporters, and allies.

With deep appreciation,

Lauren Deutsch, Esq.
