If you’re reading this, we know you’re a vital part of a diverse and incredible community that’s working towards intersectional disability justice nationwide. Beyond our many wonderful supporters like you, the Disability Law United Board of Directors is the guiding force behind and the committed heart of our organization, and we’re pleased to announce the planned expansion of our board and the launch of our open call for new board members!
It’s no secret that we have a long way to go to make our neighborhoods, cities and states fully accessible for people with disabilities. From basic issues of access in public spaces, on transportation and in housing, to the increased threat to life from the climate crisis and worsening extreme weather events, and from badly-needed reforms in our carceral system to the notorious and sometimes-deadly U.S. immigration system, the number of people facing discrimination and risk continues to rise.
This work isn’t easy, but the many and ever-increasing issues we’re facing require us to think creatively, act boldly, and ultimately harness our court systems and our communities to effect change and fight for true disability justice.
That’s where our Board of Directors comes into play.
The DLU Board plays an important role in guiding the organization and its direction. Our board members across the country work to ensure equitable access for all, by helping to plan educational and advocacy events, overseeing fiscal responsibility, contributing to litigation strategies and decisions, organizing money and people to fund and move our work, and more.
Disability Law United believes we can have the most impact by supporting disabled people who are experiencing discrimination and exclusion at the intersection of other systems of harm. If you’re ready to work with similarly passionate people and to mobilize your local community to bring about change, and you have skills to share, we encourage you to apply!
A strong candidate for our board will have a passion for advancing disability justice at the intersections of accessibility, environment, carceral reform, and immigration, and is ready to collaborate in efforts to organize money and members in support of our bold legal strategy. Our board is full of dynamic members, whom you can learn more about on our Board of Directors about page.
To express your interest in applying and learn more, please email board@dlunited.org with the subject line, “DLU Board Interest,” and we’ll be in touch.
We hope you’ll consider joining us!
