Disaster & Environmental Justice

Disability Law United is moving the dial on ableism in environmental justice work in partnership with disabled communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis.

The ripples of climate collapse disproportionately impact disabled people, who are all but left out of land management planning and environmental advocacy (including disaster planning, preparedness, and response). DLU is fighting for environmental justice on the front lines of the climate crisis by centering people with disabilities in disaster resilience and environmental justice work more broadly. Federal and state disability laws are untapped, powerful tools that can force municipalities and states to engage in adequate disaster planning, preparedness, and response that will protect
everyone.
